Pike County Animal Shelter Update
On December 2, 2011 the FPCAHS Inc. Board members and Commissioner, Carol Bass, toured the Meriwether and Heard County Animals Shelters. We had a great meeting as both shelter directors and staff personnel were available for a 'Q&A' session.
It is our intent to seek bids to determine the projected construction costs associated with an animal shelter.
It is our hope our cities and county governments, and citizens can work together to create and operate an animal shelter, our county so desperately needs.
What has been done
The proposed Pike Co. Animal Shelter site (county owned land) has been approved (January 2009).
Letters of support from all city mayors and council members on file with Pike Co. Commissioners (April 2009)
Draft Pike County Animal Control Ordinance on file with County Manager and Commissioners (April 2009).
Verbal assistance agreement with the West Central Pre-release Center. Verbally agreed to establish a non-revenue labor agreement with the county to assist with the animal shelter.
Budgets from neighborin counties provided to Commissioners.
Animal shelter designs/info from Meriwether and Heard counties provided to County Manager and Commissioners.
